S3 protection for the toughest
construction site conditions

Heat-resistant sole up to 170°C

The outdoor outsole made of MPU technology withstands temperatures up to 170°C – for use on construction sites with bitumen, hot asphalt or other thermal stresses. Deep lug profile with 4.5 mm tread depth for maximum grip on loose surfaces.

Waterproof leather – permanently waterproof

The robust waterproof leather forms a reliable barrier against moisture – even with prolonged use in wet terrain, rain and puddles. At the same time durable, abrasion-resistant and easy to care for. Ideal for outdoor use in all weathers.

S3 protection class – the highest class

S3 includes all protective features of S1P (steel toe cap, penetration resistance, antistatic) plus shaft water resistance and penetration resistance. SRC means highest slip resistance – tested on tiles and steel plates. The most complete foot protection for construction sites.

Overcap for lateral protection

The overcap protects the toe area from above and the sides against mechanical impacts – particularly important when working in confined spaces, in scaffolding or when lateral impacts from pipes, edges or tools are a risk.

W10 + W12 – Standard & Extra Wide

As one of the few safety shoes in the range, the Anatomic Bau 500 is available in two widths: W10 (standard width) and W12 (extra wide). This makes it ideal for wearers with wide feet who often have fitting problems with normal safety shoes.

3D cushioning & aktiv-X functional lining

The 3D cushioning system reduces shock and pressure loads with every step – important for long shifts on hard surfaces. The aktiv-X functional lining ensures a comfortable climate inside the shoe and prevents pressure points even after 10+ hours.

Material &
Specification

The ATLAS® Anatomic Bau 500 S3 was specially developed for tough use on construction sites and outdoors. The robust waterproof leather reliably protects against moisture and, together with the aktiv-X functional lining, ensures a comfortable foot climate – even on long working days.

The deep-tread outdoor sole with MPU technology offers secure grip on uneven surfaces and is heat-resistant up to 170°C. Thanks to the steel toe cap, penetration-resistant midsole and S3 SRC certification, the safety boot meets the highest demands for protection and comfort.

The integrated 3D cushioning system supports fatigue-free work and makes the Anatomic Bau 500 the ideal companion for construction, trade and industry.

Care &
Usage Notes

Waterproof leather requires regular care to maintain its water-repellent properties long-term. Leather care and waterproofing products significantly extend the lifespan. Regularly check the heat-resistant sole for wear – replace at 2 mm remaining tread depth.

🧴Treat waterproof leather regularly with leather care products
💧Refresh water repellency by waterproofing
🔍Regularly check tread depth – replace at remaining depth below 2 mm
🧹Clean soles of dirt and bitumen residues after use
💨Allow to air dry after use – never dry directly on a heater
⚠️Replace shoes if overcap, sole or shaft are damaged

FAQ

What is the difference between S1P and S3?
S1P and S3 mainly differ in water resistance: S1P protects against moisture in the sole area (anti-static, penetration-resistant), but the shaft is not necessarily waterproof. S3 additionally requires water resistance of the entire shaft – the shoe must not allow water to penetrate. S3 is the most comprehensive safety class and mandatory on many construction sites and for outdoor use in rain.
For what applications is the heat-resistant sole up to 170°C important?
Normal soles can melt or be damaged on hot surfaces. 170°C heat resistance is important for: roofing with bitumen and hot bitumen work, road construction with fresh asphalt, working near ovens or kilns, outdoor welding work, and generally for activities where the outsole is exposed to high temperatures. The Anatomic Bau 500 reliably protects the sole from thermal damage.
What is the difference between W10 and W12?
W10 is the standard width of the Atlas® Anatomic Bau 500 – for wearers with normal feet (Art. No. 4900). W12 is the extra-wide version (Art. No. 4912) – for wearers with particularly wide feet, swollen feet (e.g., due to long shifts), or for wearers who use orthopedic insoles and therefore need more space in the shoe. W12 is a rare option in the S3 segment and makes the Anatomic Bau 500 the ideal solution for wearers who cannot find a suitable option with normal safety shoes.
What is a scuff cap and when is it necessary?
A scuff cap is an additional protective layer over the toe cap that also protects the sides of the toe area. It is particularly important for: scaffolding work where impacts from the side are a risk, cramped working areas with pipes and edges, masonry and screeding work, and for activities where the foot may hit obstacles from the side. With normal steel toe caps, the steel toe cap only protects from above – the scuff cap also protects from the sides.
How is waterproof leather maintained?
Waterproof leather should be regularly cleaned and treated with a suitable leather care product. After cleaning, impregnation is recommended to maintain and renew its water-repellent properties. After use on wet surfaces: allow to air dry, never dry directly on a radiator – this will crack the leather. Regular care significantly extends its lifespan.
