Modaflame™ Rain HV – Inherent Flame Protection

The Modaflame™ Rain HV fabric (98% polyester, 2% carbon fiber, PU-laminated on 60% modacrylic / 40% cotton) offers durable inherent flame resistance according to EN ISO 11612 A1+A2, B1, C1, E3, F1 – no wash-out effect, no treatment, stable for life.

ELIM 32 cal/cm² – Strongest Arc Flash Protection

With ELIM 32 cal/cm² and ATPV 39 cal/cm² (IEC 61482-1-1) as well as APC Class 2 (IEC 61482-1-2), the MV70 is the jacket with the strongest arc flash protection in the Masterwear range – for high-voltage environments, switchgear, and power supply.

Waterproof with Taped Seams

The PU coating on the outer fabric and the taped seams prevent water penetration – even at seam transitions, which are often the weak point in normal rain jackets. EN 343 Class 3:1X confirms the wet weather protection.

EN ISO 20471 Class 3 High Visibility

Flame-retardant reflective tapes according to EN ISO 20471 Class 3 – the highest high-visibility class. The reflective strips are self-flame retardant, ensuring no weak link in the protective equipment. RIS-3279-TOM for UK railway use (Orange only).

Chemical Protection EN 13034 Type 6

Limited splash protection against liquid chemicals according to EN 13034 Type 6 – important in petrochemicals, chemical industry, and oil & gas. Combined with flame protection, the MV70 offers protection against the most common hazards in these industries.

9 Pockets & Radio Loop

9 functional pockets – including internal pocket, radio pocket with loop, chest pockets, and side pockets. The radio loop is particularly relevant for emergency services and technical teams requiring constant communication.

Material &
Specification

The Portwest MV70 Modaflame Rain Multi-Standard Jacket combines comprehensive multi-standard protection with professional weather protection for demanding work environments. Developed for industrial, power supply, railway, and infrastructure work, the jacket provides reliable protection against heat, flames, electric arc flashes, chemical splashes, and electrostatic discharge.

The high-quality Modaflame™ Rain fabric is flame-retardant, antistatic, and waterproof. Taped seams prevent water penetration and ensure reliable protection in outdoor use, even in heavy rain. At the same time, the breathable material ensures high wearing comfort and freedom of movement during long working days.

Particularly noteworthy is the integrated arc flash protection according to IEC 61482-2, which makes the jacket ideal for electrical engineering and energy-intensive work areas. The flame-retardant reflective strips also increase visibility in safety-critical environments.

The orange version is also ideally suited for railway and track work with increased demands on visibility and protective clothing.

Why the MV70
is the right choice

For all professionals in highly regulated, weather-intensive, and hazardous work environments – the most uncompromising multi-standard rain jacket when everything is at stake.

9 standards in one jacket – Flame, Arc, Welding, Antistatic, Chemicals, High-Vis, Rain, UV, CE CAT III. No other jacket in the range offers this scope of protection.
ELIM 32 cal/cm² – highest arc rating – APC Class 2 according to IEC 61482-1-2. For high-voltage environments, switchgear and power supply, where lower ATPV values do not cover the risk.
Inherent flame protection + welded seams – Modaflame™ Rain HV is permanently flame-retardant, the welded seams keep it waterproof even in heavy rain. No compromise in extreme conditions.
Flame-retardant lining + flame-retardant reflective tapes – even on the inside and on the reflective strips, there is no weak link. The entire jacket is consistently flame-retardant from the inside out.

FAQ

What is Modaflame™ Rain HV and what makes the fabric so special?
Modaflame™ Rain HV is a proprietary high-performance fabric from Portwest. It consists of an outer layer (98% polyester, 2% carbon fiber) with a PU coating laminated to a substrate of 60% modacrylic and 40% cotton. The modacrylic substrate provides inherent flame protection – anchored in the fiber, not applied. The PU coating makes the fabric waterproof. No other fabric offers this combination of flame protection, arc protection, and rain protection simultaneously.
What do ELIM 32 cal/cm² and ATPV 39 cal/cm² mean and how do they differ?
ELIM (Incident Energy Limit) is the energy limit up to which the material protects without second-degree burns. ATPV (Arc Thermal Performance Value) is the value at which there is a 50% probability of suffering a second-degree burn. ELIM is the more conservative and safer value. 32 cal/cm² ELIM means that reliable protection against second-degree burns is guaranteed up to 32 cal/cm² – significantly higher than most multi-standard jackets.
What are welded seams and why are they important for rain jackets?
With normal seams, needles create small holes through which water can penetrate. Welded seams are sealed by heat or ultrasonic welding – no needle penetration, no water ingress. For a multi-standard rain jacket that must meet EN 343 Class 3:1X, welded seams are a prerequisite for certified wet weather protection.
What does EN 13034 Type 6 mean for use with chemicals?
EN 13034 Type 6 certifies limited splash protection against liquid chemicals. "Limited" means protection against occasional splashes and droplets, not against immersion or intensive flooding (that would be Type 3 or 4). In petrochemicals, the chemical industry, and oil & gas, Type 6 is sufficient for most everyday situations – in combination with flame protection, the MV70 offers a unique scope of protection.
Why are the reflective tapes particularly important for this jacket?
Standard reflective tapes would be the weakest link in a flame-retardant jacket: If normal reflective strips catch fire, the protective equipment fails at a critical point. The MV70 uses flame-retardant reflective tapes – these meet both EN ISO 20471 Class 3 and flame protection requirements. No part of the jacket compromises overall protection.
Are bulk discounts and company embroidery possible?
Yes. For orders of 10 or more, we offer tiered quantity discounts. Company embroidery is also available upon request – the MV70 is also used as uniform workwear for teams in energy supply and industry. Contact us directly.
