Flame protection, arc flash protection and
comfort in one sweatshirt

Modaflame – permanent flame protection

Modaflame Knit fabric (60% modacrylic, 39% cotton, 1% carbon fiber) has inherent flame protection – anchored in the fiber, not applied. The flame-retardant properties remain permanently, even after many washes.

ATPV 16 cal/cm² – Arc Flash Protection

IEC 61482-1-2 Class 1 with an ATPV of 16 cal/cm² and HAF of 86% according to ASTM F1959/F1959M-12. Reliable protection against electric arcs – for electrical engineers and energy providers who work daily with arc flash risks.

Anti-static EN 1149-5

The interwoven carbon fiber provides permanent anti-static properties according to EN 1149-5 – ideal for explosion-prone ATEX areas. No retrofitting, no wash-out effect – permanently safe.

UPF 50+ & Radiation Protection

The fabric blocks over 98% of UV radiation (UPF 50+) and simultaneously offers protection against radiant and contact heat according to EN ISO 11612. Double protection – against UV and thermal radiation.

Raglan sleeves & freedom of movement

The raglan cut connects sleeves and shoulder in one seam line, allowing unrestricted arm movement in all directions – ideal for activities where you work a lot overhead or reach far.

Flame-resistant cuffs & knitted waistband

Ribbed knitted cuffs on sleeves and neck, as well as a knitted waistband at the hem for a better fit – all cuffs are also flame-resistant. No weak link in the protective equipment.

Why the FR12
is the right choice

For anyone seeking a flame-resistant long-sleeve sweatshirt with arc flash protection, ATEX suitability, and maximum wearing comfort – with inherent protection that never fades.

Modaflame – inherent flame protection for life – the protective effect is anchored in the fiber, not applied. It does not diminish with washing, wearing, or ironing.
ATPV 16 cal/cm² – high arc protection – significantly more protection than most long-sleeved shirts in the same price segment. Ideal for high voltage environments and switchgear operations.
Raglan sleeves for maximum freedom of movement – the raglan cut is rare in protective clothing but makes a real difference in physically demanding work.
High cotton content for comfort – 39% cotton ensures the sweatshirt feels pleasant and natural, not like typical protective clothing.

FAQ

What is Modaflame and why is “inherent” flame protection better?
Modaflame is a special modacrylic-based fabric. “Inherent” means that the flame protection is in the chemical fiber itself – not applied by a chemical finish. Applied flame-retardant finishes weaken with washing and abrasion. Inherent flame protection cannot be washed away – it is permanent for the entire lifespan of the garment.
What do ATPV 16 cal/cm² and HAF 86% mean?
ATPV (Arc Thermal Performance Value) of 16 cal/cm² indicates how much arc energy the fabric can withstand before a second-degree burn occurs. HAF (Heat Attenuation Factor) of 86% means that the fabric absorbs 86% of the thermal arc energy. The higher the ATPV and HAF, the better the protection – 16 cal/cm² is sufficient for most industrial arc flash risks.
What are the advantages of raglan cut in protective clothing?
In a regular cut, the shoulder seam runs across the shoulder. The raglan cut connects the sleeves and body with a diagonal seam from the neckline to the armpit. This allows unrestricted arm movement upwards, sideways, and especially overhead – without tension in the shoulder area. This makes a noticeable difference when working in control cabinets, welding, or electrical installations.
Is the FR12 suitable for ATEX zones?
Yes. Due to the EN 1149-5 certification for antistatic properties – achieved through the interwoven carbon fiber – the FR12 is fully suitable for use in explosive ATEX zones. The antistatic properties are permanent as the carbon fiber is woven into the fabric.
Why no fabric softeners when washing?
Fabric softeners coat the fibers in a layer of fat, which impairs the antistatic properties of the carbon fiber and changes the surface of the fabric. This can reduce the protective effect of the FR12 – especially the EN 1149-5 antistatic properties. For all flame-retardant and antistatic garments: no fabric softener, no bleach.
Are bulk discounts and company embroidery possible?
Yes. For orders of 10 pieces or more, we offer tiered volume discounts. Company embroidery is also available upon request. Contact us directly.
