FAQ

What is Bizflame Plus fabric and what makes it special?
Bizflame Plus is a fabric developed by Portwest, made from 99% cotton and 1% interwoven carbon fibre. The cotton ensures a comfortable, natural feel, similar to ordinary workwear. The carbon fibre provides permanent antistatic properties and supports flame protection – both without a wash-out effect. The fabric is also washable at 60 °C, making it more hygienic than many alternative flame-retardant fabrics.
What do IEC 61482 Class 1 and ELIM 9 cal/cm² mean?
IEC 61482 is the international standard for arc flash protection. Class 1 indicates protection against weaker electric arcs. The ELIM value (Incident Energy Limit) of 9 cal/cm² specifies how much arc energy the material can safely withstand. APC1 (Arc Protection Class 1) corresponds to the European classification system. This certification makes the FR412 ideal for electricians, switchgear manufacturers, and energy suppliers.
Is the FR412 suitable for ATEX areas?
Yes. The carbon fibre in the Bizflame Plus fabric provides permanent antistatic properties according to EN 1149-5. This makes the FR412 fully suitable for use in explosive ATEX areas where electrostatic charges pose a risk.
Why can the trousers be washed at 60 °C?
Since the flame protection is intrinsically embedded in the carbon fibre and cotton structure of the Bizflame Plus fabric – and not through a chemical finish – it withstands higher washing temperatures. 60 °C allows for more hygienic cleaning, for example, for heavy soiling in industry, without impairing the protective effect.
How does the adjustable leg length work?
The adjustable hem of the FR412 allows for continuous adjustment of the leg length – so the trousers fit perfectly for every height without the need for tailoring. Combined with the elasticated waistband at the sides, the trousers offer optimal freedom of movement for physically demanding work.
Are bulk discounts and company embroidery possible?
Yes. For orders of 10 pieces or more, we offer tiered volume discounts. Company embroidery is also available upon request. Contact us directly.
