FAQ

What does EN ISO 14116 Index 3 mean?
EN ISO 14116 is the European standard for protective clothing against heat and flames with limited flame spread. Index 3 is the highest classification of this standard: the material must not ignite, must not burn, and must not produce burning debris. Compared to EN ISO 11612 (protection against heat and flames), EN ISO 14116 is designed for protection against brief flame contact.
Why doesn't the FR712 lose its protective effect when washed?
With many flame-retardant shirts, the protective effect is achieved by a chemical finish applied to the fiber. This washes out over time. The FR712 uses modacrylic as the main fiber: modacrylic is inherently flame retardant – the protection is embedded in the chemical structure of the fiber itself. The carbon fiber also provides durable antistatic properties. Neither of these properties can be washed out.
Can the FR712 be worn as a base layer under other FR jackets?
Yes – this is one of the classic uses of the FR712. As a lightweight base layer (200 g/m²) under FR jackets and multi-standard outer clothing, it ensures that the upper body is also completely covered with flame-retardant material. This prevents sparks or flames from hitting a non-flame-retardant shirt underneath through openings in the jacket.
Is the FR712 suitable for ATEX areas?
Yes. Due to the EN 1149-5 certification, the FR712 is suitable for use in explosive ATEX areas. The carbon fiber reliably and permanently prevents the buildup of dangerous electrostatic charges without a wash-out effect.
How is the FR712 cared for?
Machine wash according to manufacturer's instructions. Do not use fabric softeners or bleaches – these can permanently impair the flame retardant and antistatic properties as well as the deep black color. The Modaflame knit fabric has excellent shrinkage properties and retains its shape even after many washes. The colorfastness of the black is designed for long-term use.
